The present work investigate the causes of mispronunciation in english.The study was conducted in Kabezi commune in the Province of Bujumbura where three 1st Form classes were visited and questionnaire sent to 1st Form Arts teachers.It is structured around the hypotheses that there are maney causes of mispronunciation of English sounds by Kabezi English learners in 1st Form Arts,that the learners' pronunciation mistakes are especially due to the teachers' pronunciation and the Kirundi found in their native language and also that the time allotted to the teaching of English pronunciation in 1st Form Arts is not sufficient.
The research instruments used are the classroom observation,intervieuw,written questionnaire and tape-recording.The findings showed that the lack of teaching-learning aids for both teachers and learners is considered as a barrier to the dévelopment of English pronunciation and subsequently a barrier to good succed in oral communication.
