A dissertation submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of the degree"Licence en langue et littérature anglaise"
This study sets out to assess the problems encountered in learning Academic writing,the problems that teachers and students come across in the process of teaching and learning this skill.In my methodology,I worked on students and the teachers of Bujumbura Light University whom I administered two types of questionnaire and gave the teacher's questionnaire to the Academic Writing teacher at Bujumbura Light University.This study found out that Academic Writing is neglected by students,but also that they have problems of Grammar and vocabulary.
It also found out that the large number of students and not equipped study halls were problems encounteres by both the teacher and students in the process of teaching and learning that Academic course.
In the light of my findings a number of recommandations are adressed to various stakeholders in the education sector in Burundi in general and the institution of Bujumbura Light University in particular.
