This study is concerned with " Factors hindering goog performance in the english national test case of selected 9th form basic schools in muramvya commune". The main objective was to identity reasons behind high failure rates in the English National Test which hampers success in Class Evaluation.
It investigates the role of class size, teaching materials and Test format in poor performance and illustrate the relationship between Class Evaluation(CE) and the English National Test(NET). In order to achieve this objective;it was important to collect data from teachers and learners,be informed that they are aware of factors which hamper performance in the English National Test. Then, two types of instruments were used in data collection i.e.classroom observation and written questionnaire. The questionnaire were distributed to English teachers and learners of 9th form in some selected Basic Schools in Muramvya Commune after classroom observation. Results showed that the class size (larges classes) and lack of teaching materials are the major handicap to the teaching of English in Muramvya and as a conséquence lead to poor performance in English in general and the English National Test in particular. It was also found out that there is similarity betwen Class Evaluation and English National Test but the problem is that the latter is the only one to be considered to select students who are allowed to move to the second stage Basic School.
