RESUME,
This work entitled << Factors hindering stundents performance in English speaking skill:Case of First Modern Arts form in some secondary schools in some secondary schools in Kayokwe commune".aimed at identifying the impact of lack of proper materials,class size and interference by other languages on teaching/learning of English speaking skills to develop students communicative performance .A number of factors were raised and analyzed in this study and the researcher lay more emphasis on the lack of proper materials for teaching and learning the English language,the effect of class size and interference of french.For this study,therefore ,three hypotheses were formulated namely:the lack of proper materials hinders the speaking of English by Burundian learners,large class size has an impact on the teaching of the speaking skill in English by Burundian learners and the learning of the English speaking skill is negatively affected by French interference.A sample comprising 100 students from five schools in Katokwe Commune was selected by using the random method.A questionnaire and oral test were also used.The data collected were analyzed and the following was revealed from the study:The lack of proper materials has a significant effect on students oral communicative performance in the English language,class size has also an effect on teaching / learning process of the speaking skills for the students.In addition,interference by the French language in English has also an effect on student's oral communicative performance.
