RESUME?

This study aimed at ways in which first and second years students in teacher training section may be helped in order to improve their speaking skill after having raised some factors that hamper the improvement of such a skill.The study was conducted in Ruyigi province and was carried out with a sample of 106 respondents ,i.e 100 students and 6 teachers of selected schools in that province by means of classroom observation and written questionnaires.This study may contribute to the speaking skill teaching /Leaning process in the T.T.S.Through this research,it was found out that the speaking skill is not given a right place in the teaching/Learning process and that speaking activities given to learners are not enough.Also,the content of the coursebook used in the T.T.S.does not provide enough help for both teachers and learning in the teaching/learning of that skill.Then,a number of recommendations aiming at improving the speaking skill were formulated and addressed to different partners of the education sector.
