RESUME,
This works examines the concept of elitism and the impact of western education on Africa as reflected in Ashebe's novels:No vels:No longer at Ease,A man of the people and Anthills of the savannah.More specifically,it explores how the post-independence African elites, produced by that same Western education ran public responsibilities they inherited from their former masters and invaders and to which satisfaction Africans enjoyed that renewal. This work also analyses the level of elitims in the selected novels and its predicament.Written against postcolonial and Marxist literary frameworks, this thesis explores how African society has got elitists learders whose belief in superiority is not different from the former colonial master's,how they dethroned the colonizer simply to replace him and which successes and failures they accumulated.Having been good elitist disciples of the colonizer ,the new clique became greedy and violent, and therefore good for nothing except to indulge Africa in a sorrowful dilemma.
