RESUME

Researching on the reading skill stemmed from my strong desire to improve its teaching and learning in Burundi secondary schools. If we take the case of second language acquisition, what is the place of reading ? Are learners aware of the importance of the reading skill ? Why do Burundian learners need to deal with different readng tasks ? What are the prolems they encounter when reading English documents ? Do learners get easily different English reading materials to read ? Are they interested in those that are at their disposal ? How can I then help Burundian learners to overcome the problems they encounter as far as the reading skill is concerned ? There are so many questions that my work here attempts to answer My work thus comprises five chapters.

The first chapter, general introduction deals with different stages the work went through from its beginning. The second chapter contains a review of some of the literature related to my work. As far as the third chapter is concerned, it deals with the methodology I used to carry out the research. The fourth chapter deals with data presentation, analysis and presentation of the findings. Finalsty the fifth chapter formulates conclusions and recommendations. All this will be done with the perspective of giving my contriution to face the problems caused by the lack ol enough reading materials in Burundi secondary schools.
