Résumé,

This work interprets the collected Kirundi sung folktales. It tries to show how the Burundian culture is transmitted from generation to generation through Kirundi sung folktales.

In fact, the present work's objective is that of studying the Burundian sung folktales within a pragmatic framework. We want toprovide that there is a cultural message got through Kirundi sung folktales, that is, there is a hidden meaning through a narrated Kirundi sung folktale.

Burundians communicate ideas and feelings using stories. The latters have the importance of entertaining and teaching. As a result, elders use them to guide young people and let them know their own history in order to promote and keep the values of their ancestors. They the young people stories from which they get the messsage which gives explanations to the reality of things they see in everyday life.
This helps them to be conscious of who are and where they come from to let them know what may happen in their future.
