Résumé,

This work aims at looking and analyzing the way four languages i.e Kirundi, French, English and Kiswahili are being taught in Burundi primary schools. Ten schools from Bujumbura municipality were selected for this study. Three hundred pupils were selected for use in this study. Also twenty primary school teachers participated in the study as respondents. Data were collected trhough questionnaire, oral interveiews and class participation. The data were analyzed using tables. Three directional hypotheses were analyzed and have been proved.

Based on the findings, the study concludes that the concurrent teaching of Kirundi, French, English and Kiswahili in Burundi primary schools is not successful, that the learners' age does not allow them to learn the four languages taught at the same time and that the teaching - learning of the languages does not facilitate neither the learners nor the teachers.

Recommendations for improving the teaching of these languages in Burundian primary schools were made and suggestions for further research were given.
