RESUME

This work aims at making an analysis of some factors that hinder first scientific B students' oral fluency in some BUJUMBURA secondary schools. In our study, we have worked on the hypothesis that students do not use the English language in and outside the classroom and that materials available to students do not help them with oral fluency. Also the spoken English is not given enough time in classroom activities. The data used in the research were collected using a written questionnaire to teachers, interview to learners and classroom observations. The analysis and interpretation of data revealed that the teaching materials available to students and teachers, that is, the book "Project Aftermath" does not really help them with spoken English as they do not reflect science students' real language learning needs. Also students do not have time to express themselves during lessons and out of classroom. It is in this light that we concluded the study with a number of suggestions and recommendations in store for the implementers.
