Résumé,

The purpose of this study is to find out the factors that affect students ' oral performance in English language. To collect data, a classroom observation and written questionnaire for both teachers and students is used. Since this is an exploratory study, it is not easy to cover all the subjects of Ecole Fondamentale schools. Only six schools located in Kiganda commune are selected particularly seventh form classes. We suggest to the further researchers to investigate the other areas of the country and classes where we didn't reach. After the analysis of the data from questionnaires and classroom observation, I found that all the three hypotheses stated were proved right. The findings have also proved that the factors which affect the students' oral performance in English in 7th form in Kiganda commune aree the lack of trained teachers, the lack of linguistic environment and the lack of adequate and appropriate teaching materials. Finally, a discussion, a conclusion and some recommendations are made for improving the teaching of oral skill. These include : improve teachers training, improve the linguistic envronment and provide adequate and appropriate teaching materials. Findings from this work should be beneficial to all partners of education, especially the government, to take all necessary strategies to promote oral skill in Burundi
