Résumé,

The main gloal of this study was to find out if drawings and the TPR method can enhance the teaching of English vocabulary in 5th form classes . In order to achieve this objetive, it was important to collect data from teachers and learners, and at the end of the day, be informed if they are aware of these strategies.

Thus, to collect data, two instruments were used, i.e. , a written questionnaire and interview. The questionnaires were distributed to the 5th form level teachers in some selected Bujumbura city schools and interview was conducted with some learners because the study connot cover all the schools of the country.

The findings showed that teachers mostly use verbal explanation to teach English vocabulary, teaching materials are not sufficient at all and a large number of teachers have not got training in using drawings and the TPR method.

Thus, quotations from related studies of some respected authors in linguistics whose ideas were important to enrich my work, have been reviewed. As solution, some recommendations were formulated to all education partners in order to improve the teaching of English vocabulary to the pupils of 5th form level by using drawings and the TPR method. Moreover, there is a suggestion that other researchers should provide the basis of further research in order to explore the problem in the other parts of the country.
