Résumé,

This work examines patriarchy in Kate Chopin's The Awakening. It shows how through religion and family patriarchy is an oppressive force over women. It also gives a message that the athor's message about patriarchy and the fate of women. This work attempts an analysis of Creole society structures that give power to men over women. The exploitation of women by men appears to be at the root of the unequal relationship between men and women. The work employs the feminist approach to dissect the ways in which patriarchy limits the woman's freedom and how heroine in the novel attempts to rebel against her oppressors. It this work, religion and family are the determining factors in women's oppression. It ends with the view that the heroine's suicide is a route of escape from the yoke of patriarchy
