This study on "An Analysis of Factors Behind Students" Lack of Oral Fluency in English at the University of Burundi : The Case of BAC I Students in the Department of English at the Institute for Applied Pedagogy" analyses factors that hamper the developement of oral fluency in English among the students of the Department of English at the Institute for Applied Pedagogy in BAC I. This study intends to answer the following research questions that guided this research. Is the time devoted to the teaching of Oral Expression sufficient to allow students to develop their or fluency in English ? Does students' attitude towards English affect their oral fluency in it ? Does the fact that students do not communicate in English outside the classroom affect their oral proficiency in it ? To get answers to those questions, classroom observation was conducted, a written questionnaire was administered to students and an oral questionnaire was directed to the teacher. This study was carried out with 98 subjects. 97 students and a teacher of oral expression course. The main findings were the following. The time devoted to the teaching of Oral Expression is not sufficient to allow students to develop their oral fluency in English . Many students have a negative attitude towards English. There is lack of communication in English outside the classroom. As a conclusion, the researcher made recommendations to the stakeholders to remedy the raised issues.
