Résumé,
Generally speaking, Kirundi our mother language, is not spoken in the same way throughout the country. Kirundi has many dialects depending on many reasons. This research work therefore found out what are the lexical differences between a dialect spoken at Mabanda and Kibago area and the standard Kirundi.
The sample population used in this work is 100 (one hundred) informants of the two markets Musenyi in Mabanda and Kwa Buhinja in Kibago communes. These informants were randomly chosen from each market. I chose 50 (fifty) from each market. From the data analyzed, it is successively observed lexical diffèrences from Standard Kirundi and Giha Variety on phonological such as the qualifiers gitoya and gitonyi; morphological as in tense marker nanyonze ikinga and ndanyonze igali and semantic as in ubugeni and idenga levels compared to sandard Kirundi.
