RESUME

This study, "A lexico Phonological Analysis of the Kimoso Dialect Spoken at Kinyinya" aims to describe and analyze the lexico phological variations that are found in KIMOSO dialect compared to standard Kirundi.

This study was carried out in KINYINYA Commune of RUYIGI Province.

Concerning my informants. I took into account their age and education. So, the research population comprises respondents with low and non educational level and who have not been absent in the area for a long time. The minimum age limit was forty five. A number of twenty persons were taken in the following categories :

1) Age between forty and forty five (40-45)
2° Age between fifty and sixty (50-60)
3° Age between sixty and beyond

A total of sixty persons were selected from the population. The direct method was used as the respondents can neither read nor write. In collecting data. I used a questionnaire and a tape-recorder. The analysis of data collected led the researcher to a number of conclusions. As far as the lexical level is concerned, it was revealed that a number of words do exist in both dialects but their meanings differ. There are differences between the dialects. For example duplication in KIMOSO does not have special meaning. KIMOSO equally embodies some words which do not have equivalents in standard Kirundi.
