Résumé,

This study on "THE IMPACT OF LINGUISTIC ENVIRONMENT ON THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF ENGLISH IN "ECOLE FONDAMENTALE" : A STUDY CONDUCTED AMONG SEVENTH FORM PUPILS IN BISORO COMMUNE" analyzes the negative mpact of the linguistic environment encounered by teachers as well as learners in their eaching-learning process. This study intends to answer the following questions that guided this research. Do the teachers of ECOFO have the required mastery f the English Language? Do the first and second languages affect the teaching and learning of English? Do the students of ECOFO get the opportunity to improve their English language after class? To get answers to those questions, classroom observation was conducted and teachers and students' questionnaires were administered. The study was carried out with 92 subjects; 86 pupils and 6 teachers in 6 schools in Bsoro Commune. The main findings are the following : Many English Teachers of ECOFO in Bisoro Commune do not have a required mastery of the English Language. There is the interference in the English teaching and learning activity by Kirundi and French language. Students of ECOFO et Bisoro Commune lack opportunites to improve their English language after class. The external environment of the students presents hindrances to the mastery of English Languge. As a conclusion, the researcher made recommendations to the stakeholders to remedy raised issues.
