Résume,

This study is about ENGLISH CLASS MANAGEMENT IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS IN BURUNDI : " CASE OF SOME JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS ENGLISH TEACHERS IN BJUMBURA CITY AND BUBANZA PROVINCE". It is concerned with the teacher's behaviours while he/ she is teaching, the way he or she does to make his or her lessons successful in an appropriate atmosphere of the class. Junior high classes are generally made of young teenagers whose behaviours need particular teachers' managerial characteristics and techniques for successful class learning. Indeed, this successful class learning depends upon how good the interaction and cooperation between the learners and the teachers is. This study was motivated by the fact that the English level of the pupils at the end of the lower cycle of secondary schools is not satisfactory even though teachers are available; and the fact that the researcher experienced the class management problem in junior high school (in 5th fORM) during the training period at the teaching of English. This study intended to test a number of research questons and hypotheses that were formulated. It was carried out in the 5 th and 4th forms of the selected schools of Bujumbura mayorship and Bubanza provice. To find out answers to the stated questions, direct class observation of teachers of Englsh at work was used on the basis of a questionnaire in form of a checklist containing some teachers' managerial characteristics and techniques required for good class management. The questionnaire also involved some questions that were addressed to the observed teacher after or before the lesson. By the end of the research, the findings revealed that teachers and learners face many problems in their classrooms because of lack of instructional materials and large numbers of pupils, bad classrooms environment of some schools, ect. Indeed, most of the formulated hypotheses have been proven important and accurate. All in all, it is suggested that teachers of English, supervisors, schol administrators and Ministry of Education should be aware of the stated problems.
