Résumé,

This work entitled "The Family Structure in V.S. Naipaul's Miguel Street" examines the family structure as presented by Naipaul in his novella Miguel Street.
It is built on the hypothesis that Naipaul presents, in his novella, families that are disintegrated. It aims at nalyzing the characteristics of the traditional family and the non-conventional family portrayed in the novella. In addition, it examines the vision of the author.

It is grounded in the New Historicism approach which takes historical situation as an integral part of a work of literature. The first argument in this work says that traditional families presented in Miguel Street are hells of misunderstandings and quarrels. The second asserts that the non-conventional families are made of failures, dreamers and fakes. The last argument is that Naipaul views his society as alienated, failed and corrupt. This shows that the writer presents families with many problems and disintegrated structures. Is means also that the author is pessimistic about the survival of the family which does not help changing overtime.
