Résumé,

This work aims at examining Epie s The Death Certificate to show how he presents the woman in her search for freedom and identity in a patriarchal setting. Our study explores some of the strategies adopted by the subordinated and underestimated female character liberate herself. To arrive at this, our research siuates Epie's female character within the Bakosi society which denies the woman her basic rights. It proceeds to investigate female's determination to change her traditional consideration. It goes on to expose the path taken by a woman to assert herself. In addition, it explores the consequences of her struggle. Written against the background of the feminist theoretical approach, this work seeks to prove the hypothesis that Allobwed' Epie's female characer in The Death Certificate strives to make herself free from the webs of patriarchal restricions. That woman displays the capability to challenge tradition based on patriarchy which values man and underestimates woman.
