Résumé,

This work aims at evaluating the learning of the reading skill in Burundi secondary schools in general and in the Fouth form in particular.
It is based on the premise that in large classes, pupils in secondary schools may have a negative attitude towards the learning of the reading skill and do not allow the pupils to communicate with fluency in reading activities. The questionnaire and classroom observation were the instruments used to collect date from respondents in four schools in the Ruyigi commune.

The date were presented in the form of tables and percentages and were then analyzed and interpreted. It has been discovered that pupils at secondary school in large classes face many problems arising from the lact of reading materials and the methods used by teachers do not allow the pupils to communicate fluently in reading activities.
From the findings , recommendations were directed to different partners who are involved in the teaching / learning of English in general and of the reading skill in particular.
