RESUME

This work examines the image of a woman in patriarchal societies. Il examines how women's creativity is limited by the societies they live in. Basing illustrations on Eliot's The Mill On The Floss and Emecheta's Second-Class Citizen, it highlights the ill-treatment, oppression, and discrimination women undergo because of societal beliefs. It shows how women suffer from misconception frm their early childhood. It further illustrates Elliot's and Emecheta's heroines as successful women who succeeded to be creative and independant despite the social limitations ; deducing similarities between the novels under study. This work anchors ons the hypothesis that patriarchy limits creativity of women. Based on Feminist theory ; this work concludes that both men and women should be granted the same opportunities to develop their abilities. Moreover, both men's and women's contribution to end the oppression is required.
