Resume,
This work examines how Charles Dickens presents hi characters symbolically in Hard Times. The work furthermore analyses how the author presents the structure of his work to symbolic. In addition, this work examines to what extent the setting of the novel suits symbolically the social context of the industrial revolution in Englang. This work is therefore based on the tentative conjuncture that Charles Dickens's use of symbols helps define the sociopolitical atmosphere of the industrial civilization of English society. Written against the background of New Historicism, this work settles on the note that symbolism is an efficient tool through which Dickens uses to prove that sciences should not boast supremacy over arts
