Résumé,

When one talks of teaching, one thinks of three elements : the teacher, the materials and the learners. The teaching of English aims at equipping pupils with the four basic language skills so that they can communicate effectively. Then this study seeks to find out what takes place during the teaching of the reading skill. Teaching to read is to help learners learn how to understand a written message.

in order to attain the purpose of this study, the research questions were concerned with the methods used in the teaching of the reading skill, the awareness of the reading sub skills on the part of the teachers and, the availability of reading materials to facilitate the learning of the reading skills.
The teaching methodology is very important in the learning process. It is then true that the successful teaching and learning depend on appropriate application of proper teachers'methodology.

As there are various effective teaching methods, this study found out that most of the teachers read the text aloud when the pupils were listening and this method is not effective. It was also found out that those teachers were not aware of the reading sub skills and the materials on both the part of the teachers and the learners were not sufficient. This study shows clearly that pupils in the schools of busoni commune are not exposed to effective teaching of the reading skill.
