This work examines physical and psychological consequences of racial discrimination in Alex La Guma's A. Walk in the Night. To go about this, we are situating the novel against the backdrop ol apartheid in South Africa. This is done by analysing the role of racist South African regime as depicted in the novel. It equally stresses on the different injustices meted on the black South Africans where the black majority and coloreds are robbed of any snse of humanity by the white minority. It further presents consequences both visible and mental on the oppressed races. Referting to Marxism and New Historicism, this work explores the violence and bloody struggles engaged by the oppressed races, against the white-bourgeois. It finally analyses the role of New Historicism which awakens the masses to the transformation of a social order which exploits people on grounds of race, gender, classes, religion and region. This work is based on the hypothesis that racial segragation in Alex La Guma's A. Walk in the Night has both physical and psychological impacts on the oppressed.
