Résumé

This study deals with the assessment of teaching the English speaking skill. The study was conducted on the secondary schools of Matana commune. The respondents were pupils and teachers of second form Arts.

The data were collected from answers of teachers and pupils questionnaires. This technique was found adequate to give enough information about teching English speaking skill. Since many pupils do note use English language fluently nowdays, the aim of this study is to assess the teaching of the English speaking skill.

This make ue be aware of the cause of the problem and finally find solutions. After carrying out the study, the following results have been brought out : first, the results showed that the techniques to teach the speaking skill are not used conveniently.
Secondary, the methodology used to teach English are neither adequate nor sufficient. Therefore, teachers, course designers and the government should adopt possible strategies to improve the English curriculum in general and the English speaking skill in particular .
