Résumé

This work centers on Frederick Douglass's Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass : an American Stave and Richard Wright's Native Son.
It examines how African American were organized, what they were allowed to do or not, it also shows the similarities and dissimilarities between slavery period and after slavery.

In vew of this work, it operates on the paradoxical situation between Frederick Douglass and Bigger Thomas. It highlights how Douglass was born in slavery situation, grow in it, and fights against oppression by using his own tackics such as teaching himself how to read, until he reaches the freedom. It observes also the failure of Bigger Thomas who is pushed into criminality by the vicious system masterminded by whites, he is conditioned by the environment to act the way he does.
This work also examines the reading, writing and teaching as actions rather than a description of actions through New Historicism, it re-textualizes history and it shapes the approach. It shows how it uniteds history, literature, ethnography, anthropology, arts and other disciplines.
