Résumé,

This study focuses on the constraints that impact the performance of some students at the university of Burundi, in the DELL, BC.II. It was motivated by the fact language is mainly for communication and I often hear students with difficulties in spoken English. It tried then to show the main factors which account for that.

In so doing, I examined the methods used in teaching oral skills, the materials as well as other constraints they believe to be an impact on their proficiency in spoken English. Data were draw from questionnaires administered to the third of the class plus oral expression teacher in order to give their own views.

The resultats showed that there were different main causes such as students' lack of foundation background, students'lack of confidence to use English because they are afraid of mistakes. In addition, students are not well-motivated and consequently they do not use adequate learning strategies. Moreover, the class environment is overcrowded which does not allow teaching methodology to attain its objective. The teaching materials are not adequate to the oral skill. To the oral skill. To eradicate these problems a number of recommendations were made to different people who are involved in this process.
