A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the Requirements for the degree' Licence en Langue et Littérature Anglaises'
This work sets out to examine the depiction of women in African, Islamic and Judeo-Christian myths the intention of finding out common stereotypes applied to them.
It also attempts to tackle the question of gender reconciliation by searching for possible commonality and communion as well as the existing complementarities thereof. In this respect, we are interested in studying the key discrepancies between male and female characters and what attitudes do the former hold towards the latter. This work is predicated on the hypothesis that oppressing is oppressive to those who opress as well as to those they oppress as well as to those they oppress;
For, even though women are depicted as inferior, weak, wily and wickecd beings ; and are portrayed as the gate-way to all evils, yet , paradoxically, it seems that the so-called powerful gender, the men cannot do without them. As matter of fact, they find themselves in the obligation of being absolutely bound to what they consider unworthy ; which is another kind of oppression as well.
This work further proves that there exists undeniable gender interdependence, which leads to conclude that any kind of discrimmination therein would be stupid and unreasonable. Written aginste the backgound of the mytological and feminist approacaches, t his work concludes that both genders are complementary since each one's role is needed to make the world better. This will help curbs such differences as sexism, discrimination, the question of superiority and inferiority and even the question of the "other".
