The present work examines the question of moral depravity of people in William Blake's selected poems. Based on the hypothesis that materialism is one of the causes of immorality in society, the present work examines political, economic and religious ills that marginalised the masses in the british society of the eighteenth century. This study is motivated by the will of highlighting the roots of immorality in our society so as to suggest ways for restoring the broken moral order. Written on account of the new historicist and formalist approaches, this work concludes that poverty and egoism lead to moral drought. The present work finally invites people to interact in confines of moral virtues and promote good governance in ordre to make the common welfare a priority in their undertakings.
