This study intends to assess the teaching and learning activities of the English language skills, in the fifth form of selected secondary schools in Burundi.

Today, our government's policy is based on increasing the number of Burundian English speakers as the English language status is becoming greatly important.

The findings from the classroom observation, the teachers and learners' questionnaires and the textbooks analysis assert that our official syllabus and textbooks do not make sufficient room for the teaching and learning of the English language skills ; that teachers do not take initiatives to conveniently apply the official instructions in their daily classroom teaching and that learners are note well involved in work organized around English language skills.

By carrying out the present work, the researcher wants to find out problems that teachers and tearners encounter ; which are the real causes of limitations relating to the English language skills teaching and learning activities in the fifth form of Burundi secondary schools.
