RESEAU DES BIBLIOTHEQUES DE L'UNIVERSITE DU BURUNDI

Bienvenue au Catalogue en Ligne des Bibliothèques de l'Universite du Burundi

This work examines the route from slavery to freedom in frederick Douglass's The Heroic Slave. It shows the savage treatment that Black slaves endured in America and the lamentation of their living conditions under slavery. It further stresses the bravery, intelligence and determination of Blacks in pursuit of freedom despite White contempt of the Negroes'courage. It also explores the role model that White abolitionists played in the liberation of Black slaves under the cruel jaws of slavery despite the Slaveholders'protest. This work is therefore based on the assumption that in spite of the pains inflicted on Black slaves; they revolted and, helped by some whites, ended up gaining freedom on Creole. Written against the background of New Historicism theoretical framework, the thesis concludes that the inhuman treatment inflicted on the Black slaves pushed them to revolt.
