This study examines the conflict of interest between the new women and other member of the English Society during the Victorian period in Henry James's The Spoils of poynton, It also analyses the socio-culturel background that informs this conflict in the same novel. We therefore attempt to axamine the work within the backdrop of a patriarchal structure society; a society which refuses the woman her right and feedom. In this light, it deals with the battle over possession between the new women and other members of the society . Our study brings out some of the consequences of this conflict and the fate of the new woman. Written against the new historicism theory, it concludes that the denial to grant the woman her rights is the cause of the conflict.
