L'inguistic immersion is indeed a very important key to language competence and performance development. Therefore needless to say an assessment study of its effectiveness, challenges aand possible revision in an imperative. Today, students who come from the immersion training abroad reveal they have not added much to the initial knowledge in English Language and this leaves behind the question of whether it should continue like it is today.

Besides, the government continues to invest money and energy into this linguistic immersion project every year without checking the outcome. This work sets out to investigqte how far the linguistic immersion is contributing to speaking competence in English of beneficiaries and tries to understand what are the problems and possible ways to improvement.

This was achieved trough an extensive study of relevantliterature and practical implementation of data collected using appropriate research methodology.

Questionnaire administration and participant observation were used as data collection research methods.

These data collection and analysis concerned with our case study that consisted of Final-year students in the Department of English and the Institute for Applied Pedagogy, Academic year 2009 - 2010. In the findings, the work found out that time is not sufficient and not well imparted to encourage immersion. It found out also that linguistic environment is not very helpful to this project. However it has been observed that student need to engage with the immersion but also needs guidance and supervision. This work concluded that even if the sending of students continues it is not being beneficial as it should be because it is not followed up or evaluated.

This research argues fo multiple actions to be taken by all the stakeholders in language immersion programme.

Here the government through the Ministry of education, the University and Department staff and Students Body need to sit and anlyze together the cost, thje challenges and strengths for better results of language immersion.
