This study entitled "Shadows of Racism and Sexismin Maryse Condé's I, Tituba, Black Witch of Salem" investigates cases of racism and sexism as presented by the novelist.

We therefore expose injustices rooted in these evils and their consciousness during the period of puritanism.

It also gives the author's opinion of what must be done to end this white / male oppression. This work therefore harbours on the premise that racism and sxism are the consequences of built stereotypes and myths.

It further seeks to prove that religion and science contribute to making white people and black men think that they are superior and blessed, thus have the mandate to dominate the "inferior" rece and sex. This study employs New Historicism as its theoretical framework to show that puritns's racism and men's sexism are the outcome of their superiority consciousness.
