The impact of the home language on children's bilingual profinciency in a bilingual community

The present work aims to determine the impact of the language spoken at home on the other language in bilingual children in their bilingual community.

Itpresents the detailed assessment of the level of bilingualism of the children participating in this study and makes an attempt to explain the causes of the differences of the levels of bilingualism in the children of the same bilingual community.

This is in line with determining and explaining the impact of the home language on the other language in bilingual children as one of the causes of those differences.

This work presents also what some known scholars wrote about the area related to the subjects of this study especially language acquisition, language and identity, sociolinguistics and bilingualism.

As far as methodology is concerned, this work provides clarifications about the population and the sampling techniques without forgetting the data collection procedures and data analysis respectively.

The data analysis and the interpretation of the findings presented also in this study show that the the home language inhibits the proficiency of the other language in bilingual children.

This study ended by drawing some recommendations so as to provide a guide to future research in the area of the study.
