The present work deals with a Sociolinguistic study of the Jargon spoken by fishermen at the Magara fishing Centre. In fact, fishermen in Burundi operating at Lake Tanganyika consistute a particular social group that has a special jargon with words and expressions whose meaning is unknown to other Burundians.

Therefore, this work aims at collecting words and expressions used by Magara fisherment, examining their meaning through a Sociolinguistic approach. The study focussed onthe analysis of word formation and the semantics of words and expressions used by Magara fishermen in the commune of Bugarama and Bujumbura province.

Magara fishermen constitute a subject of study in Sociolinguistic since fisherment, as a social group have a language that an outside hearer connot undersand. Fishermen jargon words so that they reach their communicative purposes, especially for keeping secrets and hiding thr realities of what they do. This study is not exhaustive. Further researches should be done in other Burundi fishing centres in order to broaden the studies about the language of fishermen.
