A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of the Degree "Licence en Langue et Littérature Anglaises"
This work examines moral (right or wrong) and cultural conflict which has characterised post independent Nigeria as a result of the encounter of two sets of values- modern and traditional values- as captured by Chinua Achebe in no Longer at ease. It goes further to show the outcome of that conflicting situation on the protagonist. This work analyses the causes of moral decay in modernnigeria and show how the contact between Nigeria and the british colonial master is the main cause of some chages in morals. It also analyses some traditional norms which are still practiced in the modern Nigerian society.Central in the work is the postcolonial and the psycho analytic approaches which helped in explaining postcolonial and psychological factors that generate social oppositions.
