This work is an attempt to delineate the tragic period of colonialism as encountered by kenyans as reflected in Ngugi wa Thiong'o's "A grain of wheat". Kenya encountered the hardship of colonization which was characterized by exploitation and torture. Our work therefore tries to explore some of these problems as captured in the text. It equally shows the effort and methods adopted by these exploited Kenyans to resist these colonial predicaments. This work shows the brutality of the west when colonizing Africa and the reaction of africans. Written against the bakdrop of New historicism and Marxisim theories, this work is written against the hypothetical assumption that; colonialism inflicted injuries on africans. It further encourages africans to cultivate ans consolidate the sense of heroism in order to face the today's effects of colonialism
