Published by : University of Burundi, Institute for Applied Pedagogy, Department of English-Kirundi (Bujumbura) Physical details: IV-67 f. 29 cm. Year: 2009

A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Award of the degree "Licence en Pédagogie Appliquée, Agrégé de l'Enseignement Secondaire en Anglais".

This work examines the reasons behind the failure of post independent African leaders to meet up the expectations of the masses in Chinua Achebe's A Man of the People. It stresses on the picturization of sexuality within the confines of politics, and operates on the premise that sexuality and politics are interlinked as sexuality influences politics. More so, most leaders of the post-colonial era are overwhelmed by their primary instincts that they lose all moral values. This work concludes that men should develop a strong sense and will in order to keep full control over their id. This work is written against the background of psychoanalytic, feminist and post-colonial theories. Man's activities are driven by the woman's invisible but irresistible power over the man.
