RÉSUME,<br/><br/>The present work deals with an assessment of English club programs and teaching materials in select English clubs of secondary schools of Bujumbura city. This topic sought, as Burundi country has already joined the East African Community (EAC) where English language has to be spolen, to show English club programs are organized and conducted in defferent secondary schools of Bujumbura city (schools under study). We have also had a look on the teaching materials they use during English club activities in order to suggest the improvement where necessary. This study was carried out in six (6) selected secondary schools of Bujumbura Mayorship. The target population of this study comprises both English club members and English club teachers. The respondents used are 70 in number i.e 13 teacherq of English and 57 pupils. The data used in this study were collect using written questionnaire to both teachers and learners, and classroom observation. The research hypotheses are the following: <br/><br/> 1°) There are some English programs used while teaching English in English club.<br/> 2°) The programs used in the English cluns do not always match with the learners' needs.<br/> 3°) English clubs are not equipped with enough and effective teaching/learning materials to facilitate the implementation of thz programs. As a result, it has been observed that<br/> both teachers and learners were facing the difficulties in teaching and learning English in English clubs. Some of them are related to the of materials and to the lack of<br/> motivation in teachers in orders to teach correctly that foreign language. It also seems at school authorities and the Ministry of education do not supply enough support to the<br/> new medium of supporting the English language development in Burundi. despite all those problems, the researcher found that English clubs are more than necessary to help<br/> Burundian learners improving their English more than they do in classroom. |
