Résumé,<br/><br/>This work examines Gender Inequality and its consequences on the Zimbabwean women as portrayed by Tsitsi Dangarembga in Nervous Condition. It points out how Shona women are biased, oppressed and excluded from some family affairs and from higher echelons of human life. This study also analyses how women have been forced to believe patriarchal ideology even though it works against their advantages. The work also tries to explore to what extent women are themselves responsible for their own marginalization since many of them adhere to the patriarchal ideology. Our study is carried out based on the hypothetical assumption that the woman in Nervous Conditions does not surrender to the oppressive patriarchal challenges as she develops strategies and fights toward freedom.<br/>Written against the background of feminist theories, this study has been conducted in the perspective of depicting that every human being should be given all opportunities to exploit their talents regardless their gender and that societies should be ready to change their social attitude in order to maintain social equilibrium. |
