RESUME,<br/><br/>The target of the present study was to identify the problems enccountered by English teachers in teaching listening comprehension at the senior level of communal high schools and to find out constructive suggestions.It was conducted in communal high schools located in Kayanza province and which have upper level especially for the firdt form arts classes.The listening skill being affected by different factors,the following hypotheses were set as statements in the study,i.e the teachers' qualifications/training are helpful to pupils in Teaching English in general and listening comprehension in particular by using different methods/techniques and materials adequalitely;the teachers are not satisfied with the listening ability of their pupils;and finally,the avaible materials for teaching the listerning comprehension skill are not up-to-date and sufficient.The target people were english teachers in first form Arts from communal high schools chosen randomly.From the total number of 52 communal high schools,9 schools were involved in the study i.e 9 teachers were taken as a sample.A teachers questionnaire and a classroom observation were used as data collection tools.The collected data were analyzed by means of tables in terms of frequencies and percentages.Findings were that many schools lack of the appropriate materials,though some schools have qualified teachers,the latter do not use adequate teaching methods,some communal high schools have large classes and the time allocated to english course is not sufficient.<br/> |
