Résumé,<br/><br/>This thesis entitled "Aesthetics of Machination in Shakespeare's Othello" examines machinations and its effects as well as the reasons behind its use. In respect of this, we are interested in portraying shakespeare's characters as people hungry for power. Their quest for power relies on the fact that each character struggles to move from one sage to the other. Some desire to ascend to the highest position and others do not wish to lose their respective positions, and this engenders machinations. In the course of our study, we have realized that among all characters, lago appears to be more devoted to power, and seeks to achieve his goal through the use of machinations. With regard to this, we have examined lago's machinations by trying to point out the ruse and tactics he uses to accomplish his evil plans. We have revealed how characters suffer because of the egoism of one person. This work is built on the hypothesis that machinations end up reducing the hero to a lower self-esteem and finally lead him to making wrong decisions that may lead to his downfall. In Othello, for instance, lago's machinations that reveal Desdemona's false unfaithfulness; cause Othello to lose his temper when Othello takes the decision to kill Desdemona his wife and then himself. |
