Résumé,<br/><br/>This work examines the conception of death especially in Victorian period as it is seen in Alfred Lord Tennyson's selected poems. It assesses death during wars and how it is conceived by warriors and people. Death during war is viewed as a sacrifice to one's nation and the interest of all. Il is also seen as a sign of heroism where a warrior is determined to protect the interests of many.<br/><br/>Furthermore it is a path to glory for Victorians for the dead warriors are praised and remembered . Death is seen as a thing comes to alter the purpose of life. It comes to break the bond of companionship and brings about grieve to the lover. This work also singles out the author's view of death. It articulates on the premise that though death is often viewed as a bad occurrence to human life, it can be understood and conceived. The author sees it as a destiny to any living thing. He also considers it as a door to another world different from this world. Written against the background of new historicism theory, this work anchors on the hypothesis that although death brings about sadness and grief, it also immortalises the dead. Thar death is conceived in Alfred Lord Tennyson's selected pems as a normal phenomenon, which is inevitable and should be prepared for.<br/><br/> |
