RESUME<br/><br/>This study examines the love between an African-American and an Indian girl and how this love is hindered by racial barriers in Mira Nair's Mississippi Masala. It analyses the nature of racial prejudice that prevails between Blacks and Indians depicted in the film under study and how the younger generation breaks those racial barriers by means of love.<br/><br/>This work achors on sthe hypothesis that Blacks and Indians depicted in Mississippi Masala are shaped by racial and generation differences, on the one hand ; and love and racial barriers, on the other hand. As a result, this work sets out to analyse breaking racial barriers in Mira Nair's Mississippi Masala.<br/><br/>Written against the background of the New Historicism approach, this work shows the negative impact of racism to a love relationship and the fight carried out bye lovers to overcome racial prejudice as traced in the film under study.<br/><br/>Taking into account the struggle carried out by the lovers, the work concludes that everybody should strive to combat any kind of discrimination in order to have a harmonious world where people have liberty and freedom of choice.<br/> |
