This research study is about identifying of teach of teachers at the junior level are aware of the importance of games when teaching the reading skill to young learners of English. In fact, the study was conducted in Ngozi province, the junior level was selected. The study was motivated by the fact that using games in language teaching is useful and interesting method which provides learners with ability in reading. This study was intended to test a number of hypotheses that were formulated for my research. To find out answers to the stated questions, an interview was used on the one hand. This aimed at getting reliable information from the English department of the BEPES as teachers could not telle me all about secondary school programmes. On the other hand two questionnaires were addressed two both teachers and pupils of the junior level classes. The purpose was to find out if teachers of the junior level use games when teaching young learners and if they teach English accordingly. By the end of my research, the findings revealed that teachers at the junior level do not use games when teaching young learners the reading skill in particular and English in general. This is due to some factors, mamely a total absence of teaching materials that include games and the lack of training in the use of games.<br/><br/>All in all, it suggested that teachers by being aware of the importance of games may improve the reading skill by using that technique. In the end a general conclusion and some recommendations were drawn and formulated by the researcher.<br/> |
