Résumé,

The aim of this research i to explore the views and attitudes of English as foreign language teachers in Burundi towards the use of songs when teaching English to learners in basic schools especially pupils in the 9 th form. Oral skills, that is listening and speaking skills, had been taking into considération . The opinions of English language teachers in the 9th form of the selected schools were collected through the use of three instruments which were questionnaire, classroom observation and interview. The result demonstrated that the most of the teachers surveyed, realize pedagogical value of using songs when teaching English oral skills to learners. However, they do not use songs because of the lack of knowledge of teaching songs and also because of the lack of adéquate materials to teach oral skills. Therefore, it is suggested that teachers should be provided with good materials appropriate to teaching oral skills that is songs which are considered as authentic materials to teaching listening skill, and that teachers should get trainings in teaching by using songs.
