RESUME,

The purpose of this study is to investigate how home environments of the learners affects the learning of English to the performance.It searches the relationship which should be between the formal and informal learning environments for a good mastery of the English language.It also shows whether or not the languages more spoken in the learners' environments hamper the effective use of the target language.This study was carried out with 118 respondents,that is,112 pulps and 6 teachers in the selected secondary schools in Cibitoke pronvince.The work indicates that the formal and informal learning environments should be complementary for pupils' performance in English.Through this work,it is also discovered that the languages more spoken in the learners' milieu have a considerable influence on the performance of learners in English.
