Resumé,

This work examined aspects of exploitation and disillusionment in Ferdinand Oyono's Houseboy and the Old Man and the Medal. This was done by showing how Africans become naïve and lose their identity. This work helped to awaken Africans to the fact that the white man was not someone to trust one hundred percent. This work therefore showed how during colonization Africns were victims of what they had accepted blindly. The missionaries with the Bibles did not come, in relity to civilize Africans. Based on the New Historicism literary approach, this work set out to prove that colonization called "civilization" by the west was a pretext of exploiting the Africans. We further tried to prove that this exploitation led to disillusionment among Africans as viewed in Ferdinand Oyono's Houseboy and The Old Man and the Medal. This work settled on the warning that Africans will continue to be disillusioned if they do not open their eyes and avoid to be totally assimilated by the western culture.
